Misconceptions about Commercial Carpet Cleaning

Misconceptions about Commercial Carpet Cleaning

Let’s face it…we’re all busy. Between our jobs, meetings, families, and extracurricular commitments, we don’t have extra time for anything else. Deep cleaning the carpet in your office is probably the last thing on your mind. Unfortunately, most people don’t think about cleaning their commercial carpets until they are moving to a new office, the carpets “look” dirty, or they start to smell. By this point, it’s often too late to salvage the carpet.

Unfortunately, most people truly believe this is all they need to do to effectively clean their carpets. Some office managers may even splurge for a “do-it-yourself” carpet cleaning machine rental every six months. While vacuuming is great for keeping your commercial carpets clean between professional cleanings, it’s not the solution. Alternatively, cleaning the carpet with a rented machine could permanently harm it.

Many people believe they are doing everything they need to do to keep their carpets clean. Unfortunately, they are probably doing more harm than good. Here are some of the most common misconceptions about commercial carpet cleaning.

I want to save money. I’ll just rent a machine and clean the carpets myself.

We completely understand budgets are tight. Cutting out unnecessary spending is important. Renting a machine from the nearest supermarket or home store seems like a logical and cost effective alternative to a professional commercial cleaning. Sadly, these machines use large amounts of water to clean your carpets and cannot effectively pull the water back out of the carpets. This means the carpets retain extra moisture that can lead to mildew and mold. Excess water can also damage the backing on the carpet.

Excess water isn’t the only problem with rented machines. The soaps and stain removers that come with the machine can cause damage as well. These products are known to remove the color right out of the carpet!

My carpet is only a year old. It’s still clean!

Carpets are actually dirty long before they “look” dirty. Tiny particles, dust, and dirt can be invisible to the naked eye. As they dirt collects, it gathers under the carpet fibers making it extremely hard to remove. When dirt gets caught in the fibers, it causes the fibers to break down. Over time, your carpet will eventually break down and no amount of cleaning will be able to fix it.

My commercial carpet looks clean but has a slight odor. I’ll just use some carpet deodorizer to get the smell out.

Sprinkle-on carpet deodorizers are found virtually anywhere. People with pets often use them to mask pet odor. These products may seem harmless, but they contain talcum powder. This powder doesn’t dissolve in water. Over time, the powder will build up in your carpets. No amount of vacuuming will be able to remove all the powder. When you decide to clean your carpets, the combination of water and talcum powder will leave visible white stains on your carpet.

Getting your commercial carpets professionally cleaned not only improves the overall health and well-being of your office, it will save you thousands of dollars in the long run. Carpets that are regularly and professionally cleaned will look newer and last much longer than carpets that are only vacuumed and rarely cleaned.
